Spędź czas zwiedzając kosmopolityczną stolicę Tunis, starożytne ruiny Kartaginy, muzułmańskie i żydowskie dzielnice Djerby oraz nadmorskie kurorty poza Monastirem. Tunezja znana jest ze swoich złotych plaż, słonecznej pogody i niedrogich luksusów oraz oferuje wyjątkową mieszankę kultur i wpływów arabskich oraz berberyjskich. Tunezyjczycy lubią świętować setki międzynarodowych festiwali filmowych, teatralnych i muzycznych, krajowych, regionalnych i lokalnych. Kraj słynie z pięknej ceramiki, kowalstwa i mozaik.

W ciągu roku szkolnego nauka zajmują największą część życia nastolatka. Wielu uczniów chodzi na dodatkowe lekcje, aby poprawić swoje oceny. Nastolatki ćwiczą lub wspólnie oglądają wydarzenia sportowe – piłka nożna, siatkówka i piłka ręczna są najbardziej popularne. Tunezja ma dobrze rozwinięte społeczeństwo obywatelskie, a niektórzy młodzi ludzie działają w różnych klubach społecznych.

Ludzie i społelczeństwo

Prawdopodobnie będziesz mieszkać na przedmieściach dużego miasta. Rodzina odgrywa ważną rolę we wszystkich relacjach społecznych. Tunezja jest pionierem w zakresie praw kobiet i dzieci, z silną obecnością kobiet na wszystkich poziomach instytucjonalnych i we wszystkich sektorach gospodarki. Jednak rodziny tunezyjskie wydają się być patriarchalne i tradycyjne, dlatego przy podejmowaniu decyzji należy zawsze skonsultować się z rodzicami. Tunezyjczycy są bardzo towarzyscy i zwykle pytają, jak się czuje twoja rodzina.

Szkoła

Będziesz uczęszczał do publicznej szkoły średniej, w której możesz specjalizować się w matematyce, naukach ścisłych, technologii, ekonomii lub sztuce. Każdy utwór oferuje tematy specjalistyczne i ogólne. Chociaż francuski nie jest językiem urzędowym w Tunezji, wiele przedmiotów naucza się w tym języku. Dyscyplina szkolna jest dość surowa, a frekwencja jest obowiązkowa i kontrolowana. Oprócz zajęć obowiązkowych niektóre szkoły oferują zajęcia pozalekcyjne w formie klubów, ale różni się  to w zależności od szkoły.

Język

Arabic is the official language, and Tunisian Arabic, known as Tounsi or Derja, is the national variety of Arabic and is used by the public. French also widely used in education, the press, and in business, despite having no official status. Having a basic knowledge of English or French will be an asset in the beginning and will help you learn the local language. Students can pay a fee to have extra arabic classes after school or as an alternative to school, while AFS will provide a free standard language course for self-study.

Food

Tunisian cuisine is influenced by the Mediterranean cuisine. The most popular dish in Tunisia is couscous, made of specially prepared semolina grains steamed and served with meat and vegetables. Tunisian diet includes a healthy dose of fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits, freshly baked bread, dairy products, olive oil, seafood (a wide range of fish) and meat (usually poultry), and can be quite spicy.

TEEN PROGRAMS (UNDER 18 YEARS OLD)

Our learning program will prepare you for an amazing AFS intercultural experience. The program begins at your home country with a pre-departure orientation and continues with orientations and other supported learning activities and facilitated conversations will help you maximize your experience, cope the challenges of navigating a new culture and community and gain knowledge, skills, and a global understanding, throughout your time abroad, and as you return to you home country. AFS volunteers will be there to support and guide you and your host family through your learning journey abroad.

ADULT PROGRAMS (18 YEARS OR OLDER)

The Global Competence Certificate (GCC) program will support your intercultural learning experience. This state-of-the-art program prepares you to successfully navigate new cultural environments—during your AFSNext experience and long after you finish the program. Online intercultural learning modules combined with in-person sessions help you develop practical and global skills, knowledge and attitudes that employers need and mission-driven organizations believe will help achieve their social impact goals. You will receive your certification upon completion of the training program.
